Workshops to Spotlight Sharjah Government Communication Award Strategy, Categories

The International Government Communication Centre (IGCC), an affiliate of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), will host a series of introductory workshop from Monday, February 14, to explain the process of taking part in the eighth edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award.

The introductory workshops, being conducted remotely, will shine the light on the strategy behind the prestigious Sharjah award, new award categories and changes in some existing categories as well as the mechanism of participation by the target audience. These special workshops will also feature a number of previous award winners who would share with the participants their own winning practices and experiences and explain how to benefit from them.

Jawaher Al Naqbi, Manager of the International Government Communication Centre, stressed that the introductory workshops are aimed at ensuring greater and successful participation in the various categories of the award, offering the target audience with all the necessary information and guidelines about participating in the award. The workshops will respond to the participants’ queries to ensure their submitted applications and files meet the required criteria, ensuring the entire participation and evaluation process takes place in a transparent manner and according to the highest global standards, enhancing the chances of winning in its various categories, she added.

The SGCA is a platform to enhance competition and consolidate best practices in the government communication sector in the region and beyond. By building awareness about the importance of government communication and encouraging young people to engage in this vital sector, it seeks to support their distinguished work in this field.

Al Naqbi added that the SGCA, which is the only one of its kind award in the Arab world targeting the government communication sector, was instituted in September 2012 to translate the directives and vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to promote best practices in government communication and stimulate creativity and improving performance in this critical sector.

The first introductory workshop will highlight the experience of Captain Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of the Press and Publication at the Sharjah Police, winner of the Best Government Communication Coordinator category last year in the seventh edition of the award.

Other workshops, scheduled to be held in weeks ahead, will review the categories dedicated to the Arab world and review the Best Scientific Research in Government Communication category. Besides, the workshops will highlight the experiences of the winners in the categories of the Best Youth Initiative in Government Communication, the Best Crisis Response, the Community Voice, the Best System Supporting Government Communication, and the Best Social Media Influencer category from the seventh edition.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, the prestigious Sharjah award annually honours the winners from various categories targeting excellence and extraordinary achievements in the field of government communication in the UAE, the Arab world and internationally.
